Wed. in Paris
Dinner in the hotel. We were treated like royalty, waiters in tux and bowing and taking my hand to seat me. We sat outside in a garden with a fountain and pool with beautiful Sculptures spraying water into the pool. Tableclothes and cloth napkins and real silver and crystal. This was again an international arena. On one side of the garden were a large group of Sheiks in their long white robes on head long cloth with different cording. There were many older men and a few young men. One in particular was all in white and everyone seemed to treat him with great honor. One very young man, maybe college age wore a black ball cap backwards and mostly western clothes. None of the waiters approached them unless he was called for and they seemed to come and go at will. About half way around was an obvious Jewish couple, seated purposely with their back to that area. Many very diverse looking peope in very dressy evening atire and and some in casual, listening, we could here several differnt languages. Some were very Eastern European, Greek we think. Italian and languages we did not have a clue. Several greeted on another with a kiss on the cheek, or very warm handshakes and words sounding in an endearing tone. Dinner again was many courses and about 3 hour adventure. We did not recognize much on the menu, but a lady near us was served something that looked like steak, so I asked for that. Andy had some unusual things. Cheese and very, very hard bread(Bob would love it) The salad was very interesting and jellies and jams for bread. Then the main course came. The steak had a very interesting flavor, almost steamed it was so lightly browned, but very moist and had fresh herbs. Potates had an herbal flavor as well but very light. We enjoyed all the pomp in serving and ended with desserts that we had little knowledge of. I had crepes with whip cream and orge marmalade and Andy's came with 4 things, a frozen sugared rose petal, a chocolate brownie with bitter chocolate and apricot sorbet, and a creme mouse that was undescribably yummy. We shared everything and they brought the bill after 3 hours with an attitude of disdain at having to speak of such matters. There were people smoking everywhere but it was outside and did not bother, but it is weird after the smoking bans in US. There was and every exclusive fund raising dinner in the ball room but all the guests had to go past us. It was purely delightful to see all these obviouly wealthy people coming and going. Another fashion show. People of every culture, size, shape and age, just wealthy. Some were beautiful tall long woman dressed on sophisticated array, some were a little too abundant for their very expensive gowns. The halls have 3 enormous crystal chandiliers, and everything is exquisite. At one point, Andy pointed out a very pretty woman, and told me her name which I have forgotten, but said she has the program called the Top Cook on European tv, and is famous.
Our room is very purple, but gorgeous. Above the bed is a huge crystal chadelier with clear and purple and then the whole thing has a silk golden lampshade on it. Very pretty. Will check in tomorrow, I am tired and I couldn't get on line for a couple of days so I wrote alot tonight.
Pastor Clarance asked me to come Aug. 8 thru 17. Won't know for sure until we get to India and know my schedule there.

Wed on the train to Paris.
We took all of our 7 bags(remember Andy is bringing 3 months worth.) Well we got to the train station and found a luggage cart got our ticket and then found out that you have to carry your own luggage on and off the train. We waited about 45 min. before boarding. We had to go up an escalator without steps but at a very steep angle and Andy was pushing or holding this very heavy loaded cart to keep it from rolling backwards. We were in car 15 way, way at the end of the train then you have to climb up steps an d load your luggage into racks and then we walked to the end of the car where we were seated. I walked allllllll the way. I am sure I wore off every calorie for at least six months, but I made it.
The train ride was glorious. In England I saw many small and large towns. Most of these names were from movies or books that I have read or heard or taught in History. When we past Dover, I was most surprised. I have always heard of the white cliffs of Dover, and I do not know what I was expecting, but they are very white sandstone or lime cliffs, similar to the cliffs on Miss. river, only without the brown and orange colors. All white, very neat. We past Canterbury and manoy other. The land was very much farm land, with small farms and very unique looking tractors and trucks. I really do feel like a hick from America. We were under the channel very briefly, I thought it would be very long, I will be buying some maps when we get back to London, so I know where I have been. The French countryside was so beautiful and peaceful. Miles and miles of farms, most of the hay was cut and rolled. Many fields of corn, tassled, and about as tall as me. In between the fields were very large flocks of sheep, green rolling hills and some cattle mostly white cows(come on you farmers what kind of cows are they?) The farm houses were mostly stone and brick with brown and reddish brick and brown clay tile roofs. Some were very large and some were tiny. I was surprised that it was so green and many forests.. I should have remembered from the battles of WWII like the black forest and Argone. Anyway, it was very pleasant surprise. After we passed Lilly-Europe the scenery changed. By the was train going faster than 110 mph, but still you could see alot. The tracktors were taller and very skinny, many blue one and the grain trucks were very narrow and very high. NO John Deeres in sight. In Lilly_Europe one of the only stops the train made: there was a huge building, maybe 3 stories and many stairs, maybe like a city center. On every wall from bottom to top and all the way around were amazing murels painted of people and scenery and activities it was unblievable to think of the enormous craftmanship and dedication to complete such a work of art. After Lilly, there were many more highways 4 to 6 lanes, crisscrossing in every direction. Hundreds of trucks going everywhere shipping every type of products. The type of farm houses and town houses changed to mostly stone and white or yellow stucco with very bright orange clay tile roofs. The type of clay must be different in this area. I was sorry to see that in the larger cities and towns the graffiti was everywhere on the bridge abutments and on the sides of buildings. It was very colorful and very large, since it was in French, I did not know what they said but I did recognize a few words and phrases used over and over, so I asume that they were not nice. Coming into Paris things changed rapidly. Very industrial areas and then miles of high white apartment buldings. Once in the station, we unloaded all 7 bags. Andy sat we down with the luggage and went to find a cart. Well he was gone for about half an hour. Everyone left and they locked that platform and there I sat watching the pidgeons jumping up and down the train stairs. Finally a gentleman in a suit with a name tag came passing by, so I called out for help, he wanted to know what I was doing there and I tried to explain but he did not seem to understand and then he called someone on his cell phone. I was not sure I was not going to jail, but in the end he ordered them to let Andy in with the cart. When we got to the gate, there was alot of harsh words spoken in French to the guards and other workers and much pointing to us. Praise God, however, they got us a cab and sent us on our way. HOT, HOT, HOT, HOT. 90 now where hardly has airconditioning. The cabs mostly had their windows rolled down and it was a hot ride and walk. Andy was dead from slepping the luggage all over I walked miles but here we are at our beautiful Hotel Westin. It is a 1/2 mile from the Luvere and surronded by shops and very high priced stores. The ride in was amazing all the gorgeuos buildings and historic archetecture. The doorman wears top hat and tales and very fun to be greated Madam and monsuier Kubitschek. Imagine, no one that does not know us in America can say it right but here everyone says it correctly.
Oh yes, I forgot our last night in London at 315am the fire alarms went off in the hotel room and in the hall. I was running around looking for fire and opening the doors in the hall to see if we should evacuate or whatever. No one was in the halls or up or anything so I tried the desk, praying and calling and after many tries someone answered and said Oh yes a false alarm sorry for the inconvenience. Andy and I just cracked up it was so funny to be alarmingly awakened. I am not sure I believed it was a false alarm but perhaps a little fire in kitchen and quickly put out. Anyhow we were safe.

Tues.a.m. in London.
Slept well but fast. We ordered breakfast which came as a giant bacon, egg and cheese sandwich on toast. 4 layers thick and a bottom layer of ham. Fresh fruit, all of which was very sweet, a basket of crossaints and jellys, fresh org. juice and several sweet rolls. Wonderful food, but too too much. Off to the Buckingham castle to see the changing of the guard.. Horsemen ride up the street with bright shinney silver helmets on beautiful black horses. Then the regiment of soldiers marching in their red uniforms wearing the furry looking black hats came marching up the street playing their regimental song. The queen was in residence as the flag was flying from the flag pole on top. Many people hoped that she or someone royal would drive out, but not today. The security and police presence was shocking, it was so large; on horse back, bike, walking and in cars. I suppose guarding the queen and palace is a huge daunting task. The palace and grounds were very beautiful, the gardens in the surrounding parks were very beautiful. Back to the hotel to get to train for Paris. The concierge told us that they would store some of our luggage while we traveled, but Andy thought it would be too difficult to dig in our suitcases and combine into one each, so we took them all. What a mistake. more about that later.

Monday evening in London: after a little nap and a shower we went exploring. We went to Westminster to Shepherds Market. This is an area of little shops and stores and many sidewalk cafes. We walked around quite a bit and then picked a cafe. It was about 6pm and the people seemed to be coming from work. It was cool and breezy, a wonderful relief. 85 in London. There were pubs at each end of the street with people inside and out. A group of street musicians were walking around singing and playing. They were very good and played songs and sang music from several countries.
We had a delightful waiter, from Colombia. It was a riot ordering as he didn't really speak English. There were six tables flowers in window boxes very pretty and fun. There were people strolling all around. What a fashion show. Men in suites, ladies in very fancy evening wear, earthy types(hippies) long skirts and overblouses. Many ladies in office suits. Most men didn't even take off their ties, but seemed to have fun anyway. The latest trend was scarves for the women. Every color and material, knit, silk, wooly looking, and fabric. Long, long and wrapped around their necks. Shoes and purses were very fun to see. Very beautiful, and ugly mostly very large. My granddaughters would love it. High high heels, every color and style.
Andy named many name brands very she/she.(probably not spelled correctly. We sat next to 2 charming British older ladies(older than me) They were very interesting and fun. They told us all about London and places to go. We were all enjoying the unique peoples. Sometimes we were just plain embarrassed by some of the scantie clothes. Right in the middle of the street, a couple squatted down and ate food from a box. About 9pm a garbage truck pulled into this little street to pick up garbage. The trash was in bags laying on the street, but the bags there were black and not yellow so they wouldn't take them. There was no smell so they couldn't have been there for long. We saw people of every culture and economic type. All in all it was great fun. Our waiter and the other waiters from our cafe would suddenly run down the street and into an alley, or around the corner. In a short while, one or another would return. The ladies and us disgussed this for a while and finally asked where they went. The owners owned 3 cafes and the ran from one to the other waiting on people. What a job! Eating seems to be at a very slow pace everywhere. We had a lovely soft cheese and fruit and bread for the first course and Andy had a mushroom rattitoie which was yummy, and imagine, I had lasagna with goat cheese. We had bottled water and bread every other minute. We did not get back to hotel until 10:15 and the little old ladies were still enjoying the evening.. Above the cafes are appartments I was taking pictures and a group of students from a roof top started cheering and waving. Not that we looked like American tourists much.

DEAR ONES, GOOD MORNING FROM LONDON. WHAT AN ADVENTURE. WE LEFT OUR HOUSE AT 10 AM, PICKED ANDY UP AT 11. ONLY ANDY WOULD TAKE US TO HIGHLAND TO BUY SPECIAL DERMATOLOGICAL LOTION. I WAS A LITTLE NERVOUS BUT WE GOT TO THE AIRPORT IN PLENTY OF TIME. IT WAS HARD TO SAY GOODBYE TO BOB AT AIRPORT, BUT HE WAS SO ENTHUSIASTIC THAT THIS IS ALL GOD ORDAINED. HE PRAYED OVER US, OUR BAGS, PLANES TRAINS AND AUTOMOBILES AND THE TRIP HAS BEEN EXCELLENT. WE LANDED IN CHICAGO AND WE HAD A VERY NICE WOMAN DRIVING ME AROUND. SHE KNEW EVERYWHERE TO GO, WE HAD TO TAKE A TRAIN TO A DIFFERENT TERMINAL AND SHE TOOK US ALL THE WAY ON THE TRAIN AND ALL. ONCE WE CHECKED IN WITH BRITISH AIRWAYS, WE SAT IN THE LUXURY LOUNGE UNTIL THEY CAME AND GOT US TO BOARD. LOTS OF CUMFY COUCHES AND CHAIRS. ONCE ON BOARD THEY STARTED BRINGING US THINGS IMMEDIATELY. WE HAD FRESH PILLOWS AND PILLOW CASES, OUR OWN SILKY COMFORTORS EAR PHONES. THEN THEY GAVE US REALLY NICE TRAVEL KIT CONTAINING SLEEPING EYE COVERS, TOOTH BRUSH AND TOOTH PASTE, SPECIAL CLEANSING CLOTH, HAND LOTION, FACE MOISTERISER, LIP CREAM AND LOVELY SOFT SOCKS. YOU TAKE OFF YOU SHOES AND WEAR THESE SOCKS DURING THE FLIGHT. WE SAT IN CUBBIES FACING EACH OTHER WITH A WINDOW BETWEEN US. ANDY NEVER HAD TO PUT UP THE SCREEN ONCE. YOU CAN STAND AND WALK AROUND A LITTLE IN YOUR CUBBY. THE SEAT AND FOOT REST ADJUST TO EVERY POSITION INCLUDING ALL THE WAY DOWN TO A VERY COMFORTABLE BED. MOSTLY, I PLAYED WITH THE BUTTONS. WE DID SLEEP FOR AWHILE BUT I WAS REALLY TOO EXCITED. WE HAD OUR OWN SCREEN TV. MOVIES, NEWS, SPORTS AND TV PROGRAMS. THERE WAS A LIVE CHANNEL VIEWING OUR TRIP AND IT WAS FUN TO WATCH US CROSS THE LAND AND OVER THE OCEAN. WE LEFT CHIC. AT 5:30 AND ARRIVED HERE AT 1 AM OUR TIME 7 AM THEIR TIME. WE CHASED THE SUN AS IT WAS COMING UP--BEAUTIFUL AS WERE THE STARS AT NIGHT OUT THE WINDOW. FOOD FOOD FOOD. LAST NIGHT WE HAD A FRESH ASPARAGUS SALAD WITH OLIVE OIL AND CHOPPED CUCUMBERS AND ONIONS, GRATED CHEESE AND TRUFFELS(THEY TASTED LIKE LITTLE DIRT BALLS YUK) THEN WE HAD GRILLED CHICKEN BREAST, WITH SPECIAL POTATOES AND A YUMMY SAUCE, THEN WE HAD CHEESE CAKE WITH FRESH BLACKBERRIES, CHOCOLATES AND ENDING WITH WARM, FRESH CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES AND HOT CHOCOLATE. ALL NIGHT THEY HAD A KITCHEN STOCKED WITH TREATS AND SNACKS. I HAD A HARD TIME UNDERSTANDING THE FLIGHT ATTENDANTS, ALL BRITS WITH HEAVY ACCENTS, VERY KIND. THIS MORNING WE HAD FRESH STRAWBERRIES SEVERAL SLICES OF FRESH PINNEAPLE, AND PITTED CHERRIES. FRESH FRUIT AND YOGURT SMOOTHIE, BACON CROSSAINTS, AND MUFFINS OF ALL KINDS. WE DID NOT HAVE TO EAT UNTIL LATE TODAY. THE LONDON AIRPORT IS HUGE, EVERYTHING WE SMOOTHLY THROUGH BORDER CHECK AND BAGGAGE CLAIM AND ON TO CUSTOMS. THERE WERE SEVERAL LARGE GATES AND IT LOOKED VERY OFFICIAL, BUT WE JUST WALKED THROUGH, NO ONE EVEN TALKED TO US OR LOOKED AT ANYTHING. WE TOOK A BUS TO THE HOTEL, WHAT A TRIP. WE ARE IN CENTRAL LONDON(DOWNTOWN). WILD TRAFFIC, IT WAS REALLY STRANGE RIDING ON THE LEFT SIDE. WHEN WE CAME OUT OF THE CIRCLES, MY HEART JUMPED BECAUSE IT APPEARED THAT THE ON COMING TRAFFIC WAS COMING STRAIGHT AT US UNTIL I REMEMBERED WE WERE ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE ROAD. 3 LANES OF TRAFFIC, THE WHITE DOTTED LINES BETWEEN SEEMED VERY CLOSE TO EACH OTHER. GUESS WHAT, THE MOTORCYCLES RODE ON THE WHITE LINES BETWEEN CARS, TRIPLE AND DOUBLE DECKER BUSES. I THOUGHT THE PAINT FROM OUR BUS WAS GOING TO RUB OFF ON THOSE DRIVERS THEY ARE WILDLY BRAVE. I THINK THAT IF ANY ONE OF OUR KIDS HAD A CYCLE HERE I WOULD HAVE TO FLATTEN THE TIRES EVERYNIGHT TO KEEP THEM OFF THE ROAD. THEN THE PEOPLE JUST STEP OFF THE CURB RIGHT INTO TRAFFIC, DON'T LOOK JUST EXPECT ALL TRAFFIC TO SKREETCH TO A HALT. VERY UNNERVING, BUT OUR DRIVER WAS INDIFFERENT. THE DRIVER SHOWED US MANY SIGHTS: HYDE PARK, PICADILLY CIRCUS, THE PALACE AND KENSINGTON. THERE WERE ONLY 4 ON OUR BUS AND WE WERE FIRST OFF. WHEN WE ARRIVED AT HOTEL A LITTLE OLD MAN IN A BOWLER HAT, TOOK MY HAND AND SAID HELLO MOTHER LET ME HELP YOU AND HE TOOK ALL MY STUFF AND TOOK ME INTO HOTEL. IT IS THE MAY FAIR EDWARDIAN, VERY, VERY BEAUTIFUL. ON THE WAY IN WE SAW MANY OLD, OLD ROW HOUSES WITH DOZENS OF CHIMNEYS JUST LIKE IN THE MOVIE MARY POPPINS, BEAUTIFUL OLD CHURCHES ALL MIXED IN WITH VERY MODERN BUILDINGS. PARKS ARE VERY PRETTY, RIGHT IN THE MIDST OF BUSINESS DISTRICT, A HAVEN OF PEACE AND BEAUTY. I AM TAKING LOTS OF PICTURES. WHILE WE WERE WAITING IN THE LOBBY, WE SAW A ROBBERY. A WOMAN WAS IN A VERY POSH RESTAURANT ATTACHED WHEN A MAN GRABBED HER BACK PACK. SHE CHASED HIM SCREAMING STOP THAT MAN HE STOLE MY BAG AND SEVERAL STRANGERS JOINED HIM IN THE CHASE AND CAUGHT HIM. HE LOOKED SO SURPRISED TO BE CAPTURED. IT WAS AWSOME TO SEE STRANGERS HELP HER. WE ARE GOING SIGHTSEEING SOON, AND OFF TO PARIS TOMORROW AFTERNOON. I ORDERED A CLUB SANDWICH FOR DINNER AND IT CAME ON A HUGE BUN. THE BOTTOME WAS AN UNUSUAL BUT TASTEY SAUCE TOMATOES AND LETTUCE THEN A HUGE SLAB OF HAM, THEN REAL PIECES OF GRILLED CHICKEN, THEN SEVERAL SLICES OF BACON, TOPPED OFF WITH A FRIED EGG. I WON'T HAVE TO EAT UNTIL NOON TOMORROW. PASTOR CLARANCE CALLED AGAIN, HE REALLY HAD SEVERAL PLACES WE WANTS ME TO MINISTER. I AM SO HONORED AND AWESTRUCK AT GOD'S PLAN. PASTOR CJ SAID IT IS REALLY A BIG DEAL TO BE INVITED IN THIS WAY AND UNUSUAL. PLEASE PRAY FOR DIRECTION, TIMING AND WISDOM TO COMPLETE ALL THAT GOD HAS APPOINTED FOR ME. TRUSTING GOD ALL THE WAY. LOVE AND MISS YOU ALL JUDY
